What is Record Store Day?
RSD is an annual celebration of independent record stores. The event began in 2007 and has grown into a worldwide phenomenon. Held on the third Saturday of April every year, the event aims to spotlight local music retailers and the communities that continue to support them. This year, the event is set to fall on Saturday April 18 with thousands of Adelaide’s music lovers expected to gather for the biggest vinyl celebration on the calendar.
During the festivities, participating stores generally release limited-edition vinyl, as well as exclusive pressings, reissues, and collector items that are only available in-store. Many stores also host their own DJs, live music, special promotions and giveaways which draw in large audiences.

Why Celebrate Record Stores?
The importance of vinyl and independent record stores is celebrated on RSD to highlight the enduring and beloved experience of record shopping. From flipping through crates to admiring album artwork and chatting with staff and other record lovers – independent record stores offer an experience that digital platforms can’t compete with or replicate.
