We’re calling it – cosy escapes are the vibe for 2026. And in Tasmania, there is an abundance of charming cottages and secluded retreats just waiting to be booked.

Discover your ideal highland hideaway, Cradle Mountain cabin, or coastal cottage in our guide to The Best Cottages and Cabins in Tasmania for 2026.
House of the Weedy Seadragon

Three words – beachfront, fire pit, sauna. Yep, we’re sold. House of the Weedy Seadragon is set on the sand dunes of Pirates Bay and is an original 1970s fishing shack. This character-filled seaside cottage offers a rustic vibe, surrounded by the sounds of roaring waves. While it feels cosy and intimate, the shack sleeps up to six people and offers a gorgeous deck area for entertaining. Transport your mind to a simpler time with the original 1970 kitchen which is unrenovated and compact.
Satellite Island
This unique private island stay was purchased in the 1960s by salmon-farming pioneer Ian Alstergren. The 34-hectare island sits in Tasmania’s D’Entrecasteaux Channel and is only accessible by boat or light aircraft. Up to eight guests can be accommodated on the island with the option of a hilltop Summer House, waterfront Boathouse, or a bell tent. There are walking trails, kayaking, fishing, fresh eggs, garden produce, oysters and more, with the option of a local chef to cook your catch over an open fire.

The Trig Studio
This architect-designed one bedroom ecu studio was a 2018 finalist in the Tasmanian Tourism Awards Peoples Choice. It’s self-contained in a peaceful environment with amazing views of the mountains and sea. Enjoy an organic breakfast, art and music supplies, as well as Tassie wines, seasonal treats, and more. The space is nestled on the slopes of Mount Arthur and overlooks the village of Lilydale in Northern Tasmania. We love this artistic accommodation option for its sustainability and location just 20-minutes from Launceston.

Paradise Road Farm
Unbeatable views can be found in one of two architecturally-designed cabins nestled on the hills just outside the town of Sheffield. The cabin is located on a working farm with platypus in the dams and a small herd of Speckle Park beef cattle and goats. Set up to accommodate two visitors, the cabin offers window-seat views of Mount Roland and the surrounding countryside, as well as gorgeous nightly views from bed.

Captain’s Rest

“There are stays that fill time and stays that change time”.
The owners of Captain’s Rest believe this historic fisherman’s cabin firmly fits in the second category. Framed by climbing roses and wisteria, time moves to the rhythm of the tides at this heritage waterfront cottage on Tasmania’s west coast. With a Nectre wood-burning stove, dedicated workspace, unlimited local firewood, deep soaking bath with water views, outdoor sun lounger, boat slip and more – everything at this story-filled place is catered for. Named Australia’s Most Special Stay by Escape Magazine, and featured in British Vogue and more, Captain’s Rest is an unmissable Tasmanian stay.
Wheelhouse Apartments
A stylish and self-contained stay with views over Macquarie Harbour. This cottage was designed with modern architecture and Tasmanian timbers. Enjoy a fully-equipped kitchen with all the frills, plus open-plan living, and floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light. We love Wheelhouse Apartments for its quiet location, just a short walk from the ample cafes and restaurants of Strahan.
